Mercedes EQS I facelift (V297) (2024 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.8/10

The facelifted Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) (introduced mid-2024 for the 2025 model year) represents the brand's 100% electric flagship. This facelift addresses several criticisms of the first iteration: it reintroduces a traditional grille with the standing star on the hood (Exclusive trim), improves brake pedal feel (often considered spongy previously), and, above all, integrates a new battery chemistry increasing the usable capacity from 108.4 kWh to 118 kWh. The addition of a standard heat pump optimizes winter efficiency. It is an exceptional cruiser, but its size and staggering depreciation require careful consideration before purchase. Overall generation rating: 8.5/10

🎯 Verdict

The facelifted Mercedes EQS (2024-2025) is arguably the best electric cruiser in the world right now. The engineers listened to the criticisms: the larger 118 kWh battery and standard heat pump make it a true highway devourer, while the braking has finally been recalibrated to offer a natural feel. The reliability of the electric motors and battery is excellent. However, its colossal weight leads to rapid wear of consumables (tires). Buying advice: Given the massive depreciation of ultra-high-end electric vehicles from the very first year, it is financially unreasonable to buy it new at list price. Favor an executive car, a very recent used model (demonstrator), or opt for a lease with a manufacturer-guaranteed residual value. The EQS 450+ version is the most rational choice to maximize range.
