Mercedes Classe G W463A (2018 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.5/10

Mercedes-Benz Classe G (W463A) Launched in 2018, the W463A generation (sometimes unofficially called W464) represents the greatest technical evolution of the Classe G since its birth in 1979. While retaining its iconic cubic design, ladder frame, and three differential locks, it adopts an independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, and an ultra-modern interior (dual screen). Positioning: Absolute luxury off-road vehicle, status-enhancing and exclusive. Facelift (2024): Slight aerodynamic tweaks, transition to the MBUX multimedia system, mild hybridization (MHEV) on all combustion engines, and introduction of the 100% electric version (G 580 EQ). Overall rating: An engineering masterpiece that achieves the impossible: marrying pure off-road capabilities with ride comfort worthy

🎯 Verdict

The Mercedes Classe G W463A is a rolling paradox, but that is what gives it its charm. If you opt for this model, the diesel engine (G 400 d as a priority, or G 350 d) is by far the smartest choice. The OM656 engine is a paragon of reliability, offers perfect torque to move this mass, and allows for decent range. However, avoid this diesel if you only drive in the city (risk of DPF/EGR clogging). The V8 versions (G 500 / G 63) are exhilarating but impose outrageous running costs. A passion purchase, but one that, thanks to its very low depreciation, proves to be less financially risky than it seems if maintenance is rigorous.
