Mercedes Classe A W177 (2018 – 2025)

Reliability score : 7.8/10

The fourth-generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W177 for the compact hatchback, V177 for the sedan, Z177 for the Chinese long-wheelbase version) marks a major technological turning point for the star brand. 🎯 Verdict

The Mercedes A-Class W177 is a highly technological compact car that has managed to make its predecessors' dynamic shortcomings forgotten. If you are targeting a petrol engine, the 1.3L unit (A 180, A 200) is the most rational and reliable choice, the result of a successful collaboration with Renault. However, caution is advised for 2.0L versions (A 220, A 250) from before 2021 due to proven weaknesses in the cylinder head. Models produced from 2020 onwards, and especially the facelifted versions (late 2022), are largely preferable as they have been purged of most of their electronic bugs and assembly defects. Purchase is recommended, provided a clear service history exclusive to the manufacturer's network is demanded.
