The Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W177 generation) in its A 220 (petrol) and A 220 d (diesel) versions represents the brand's premium core range. It offers an ideal compromise between performance (190 hp) and daily comfort. A true technological showcase at its launch, it inaugurated the MBUX infotainment system with advanced voice control. While the design and technology are impressive, the early model years suffered from initial flaws (electronics and finish) which were progressively corrected, particularly during the 2022 facelift.
The Mercedes-Benz A 220 (W177) is a very appealing premium compact, offering an excellent power compromise with its 190 hp, whether in petrol or diesel. However, the 2018 and 2019 model years bore the brunt of complex onboard technology and sometimes flimsy interior finish (rattles). For a worry-free purchase, it is strongly advised to aim for a model produced after 2020, or ideally the 2022 facelifted version, which corrects most of the initial flaws and brings a welcome mild hybrid system to the petrol engine.
