The Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W177 generation for the hatchback, V177 for the sedan) marks a major technological breakthrough with the introduction of the MBUX infotainment system. Positioned in the premium compact segment, the 220 version represents the upper core range, offering an excellent compromise between performance and daily comfort. It is available in petrol (A 220) and diesel (A 220 d), with 4MATIC all-wheel drive as an option. The 2022 facelift brought slight aesthetic tweaks, an update to the MBUX system, and the integration of 48V mild-hybridization on the petrol engine.
The Mercedes A-Class 220 (W177) is a very attractive premium compact, driven by a spectacular interior design and high-performance 2.0L engines. However, the 2018 to 2020 model years require caution: MBUX electronic bugs and, above all, cases of cylinder head failure on the M260 petrol engine require an impeccable maintenance history. The A 220 d diesel (OM654q) is an excellent surprise, reliable and very economical. For a worry-free petrol purchase, favor a model produced after late 2020, or ideally the 2022 facelifted version which corrects early defects and improves assembly quality.
