The third-generation Mazda3 (BM code for phase 1 from 2013 to 2016, and BN for the facelift from 2016 to 2019) marks the pinnacle of the Kodo Design philosophy and the full integration of Skyactiv technologies (chassis, engines, gearboxes). It is a compact sedan (C-segment) renowned for its excellent road handling, sporty driving position, and short-throw manual gearbox control, worthy of the MX-5. While the naturally aspirated gasoline engines shine with exceptional reliability, going against the trend of downsizing, the diesel versions have unfortunately tarnished the picture with heavy and costly failures. The 2016 facelift (BN) corrected the main early flaws, notably imperfect soundproofing, and introduced the G-Vectoring Control system for more comfort in corners. Overall generation r
The third-generation Mazda3 is a car with two faces. If you opt for a gasoline engine (Skyactiv-G), it is a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BUY. These naturally aspirated engines offer rare reliability in the modern used car market, coupled with above-average driving pleasure. In contrast, the diesel versions (Skyactiv-D), especially the 2.2L, are to be ABSOLUTELY AVOIDED due to major design flaws that can lead to engine destruction. Ideally, choose a facelifted version (BN, from late 2016) with the 2.0 Skyactiv-G 120 hp engine: it corrects the soundproofing flaws of phase 1 and represents the best performance/consumption/reliability compromise in the compact car market.
