Mazda CX-30 I (DM) (2019 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.8/10

The Mazda CX-30 (Generation I, code DM) is a compact SUV positioned between the CX-3 (now withdrawn from many markets) and the CX-5. Based on the Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture platform shared with the Mazda 3 (BP), it stands out for its near-premium positioning, a very high-quality interior finish, and driving pleasure superior to the segment average. It benefited from minor technological updates (infotainment, driving aids) in 2022 and 2024. In terms of reliability, Mazda remains true to its 'rightsizing' philosophy with large, very robust naturally aspirated engines, while innovating with the complex but fascinating compression ignition engine (Skyactiv-X). It is one of the most reliable SUVs in its category.

🎯 Verdict

The Mazda CX-30 is a highly recommended purchase. Going against the trend of 'downsizing' and fragile small 3-cylinder turbocharged engines, Mazda offers large displacement 4-cylinders whose reliability is significantly above the market average (especially compared to PureTech and TCE). If rear space is not your absolute priority, the CX-30 offers a near-premium experience without the associated maintenance costs. Opt for the 2.0 Skyactiv-G 150 hp or the new 2.5 e-Skyactiv G 140 hp versions for the best compromise. The Skyactiv-X is a fine engineering feat, reliable, but its higher purchase cost is not always offset by fuel savings.
