Mazda CX-3 I (DK) (2015 – 2023)

Reliability score : 7.4/10

The first-generation Mazda CX-3 (code DK) is an urban SUV (B-segment) based on the Mazda 2 city car platform. Launched in 2015, it stood out for its dynamic design (Kodo), its meticulous interior finish, and its driving pleasure, which was superior to the segment average. It benefited from two facelifts (2018 and 2021) improving sound insulation, suspension comfort, and updating the engines to meet Euro 6d-Temp standards. Although the model excels with its naturally aspirated gasoline engines (Skyactiv-G) of exemplary reliability, the diesel versions (Skyactiv-D), which are the subject of this in-depth analysis, present a much more mixed reliability record and require extreme vigilance before purchase.

🎯 Verdict

The Mazda CX-3 is an excellent small SUV, provided you choose the right engine. If you are looking for a diesel model (1.5 or 1.8 Skyactiv-D), extreme caution is advised. The 1.5 diesel is to be avoided unless you have proof of meticulous maintenance (frequent oil changes) and you drive exclusively on highways. The 1.8 diesel is safer but remains unsuitable for city driving. However, if you opt for a gasoline engine (2.0 Skyactiv-G), the CX-3 becomes a highly recommendable purchase, offering some of the best reliability on the market.
