Lexus UX I (AYX10) (2018 – 2022)

Reliability score : 9.2/10

The Lexus UX (Generation I - AYX10) is a premium compact SUV based on the Toyota/Lexus TNGA-C modular platform. Designed to compete with the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Volvo XC40, it stands out with its bold design, flawless finish quality, and ride comfort. Although the hybrid version (UX 250h) accounts for the overwhelming majority of sales in Europe, the 100% combustion version UX 200 (gasoline) was marketed in many markets (North America, Asia, Eastern Europe, and briefly in Western Europe). The model shines with exceptional reliability, true to the brand's reputation, although it suffers from practical shortcomings (tiny trunk, cramped rear passenger space) and a touchpad infotainment system (Remote Touch) that lacked ergonomics before its update in late 2022. 🎯 Verdict

The Lexus UX is an absolute sensible choice for anyone looking for a premium compact SUV without mechanical worries. The UX 200 gasoline version is a model of reliability thanks to its dual-injection naturally aspirated engine (M20A-FKS) and its innovative CVT gearbox, ideal for markets where a hybrid is not essential. However, if your budget and market allow it, the UX 250h remains the best buy for its drivability and fuel consumption. Conversely, the UX 300e is to be avoided except for very specific uses, due to its outdated electric technology (air cooling, CHAdeMO). The main compromise of the UX remains its interior space: buy it as a raised coupe for two people, not as a family car.
