Lexus UX I (AYX10) (2018 – 2022)

Reliability score : 9.2/10

The Lexus UX (AYX10) is the entry-level compact SUV from the Japanese premium manufacturer, based on the excellent TNGA-C platform (shared with the Toyota C-HR). ATTENTION: Contrary to the initial request, the Lexus UX has NEVER been produced with a diesel engine. Lexus permanently abandoned diesel well before the launch of this model to focus on its self-charging hybrid technology (HSD) and, later, on electric. The UX stands out for its bold design, flawless finish, ride comfort, and exceptional overall reliability that regularly dominates surveys (J.D. Power, What Car?). Its main flaws lie in its cramped rear passenger space, a very small trunk volume for the category, and a touchpad infotainment system (Remote Touch) with poor ergonomics on this first phase (corrected in late 2022).

🎯 Verdict

The Lexus UX is an absolute rational choice for anyone looking for a reliable, economical to run, and luxurious premium compact SUV. However, you must forget the idea of a diesel, an engine that does not exist on this model. The natural and most relevant choice is the UX 250h, whose hybrid system is virtually indestructible if maintained within the network. The first-generation UX 300e (electric) should be avoided for long trips due to its small battery and CHAdeMO charging, but remains excellent for local use. If you can accommodate its tiny trunk and cramped rear seats, it is a 'blind trust' purchase in terms of mechanical peace of mind.
