The first-generation Land Rover Range Rover Velar (L560) received a major technical and interior facelift in late 2020 (Model Year 2021). While the exterior changes little, this facelift corrects the main flaw of the first phase: its slow and buggy multimedia system, replaced by the excellent Pivi Pro system. Under the hood, the revolution is total with the abandonment of the old Ford-sourced V6 blocks in favor of the new Ingenium inline 6-cylinder engines (gasoline and diesel) equipped with 48V mild hybridization (MHEV). A plug-in hybrid version (PHEV P400e) also makes its appearance. Although mechanical reliability has improved with these new blocks, the Velar remains an extremely complex vehicle electronically, requiring rigorous maintenance.
The facelifted Range Rover Velar (L560 phase 2) corrects the worst flaws of its early days. The arrival of the Pivi Pro system transforms the onboard experience, and the new Ingenium inline 6-cylinder engines finally bring the mechanical nobility that its design deserved. If you are looking for a diesel, the D300 is the must-have choice: it is more reliable, infinitely more pleasant, and better sized for the weight of the vehicle than the D200. The D200 (4-cylinder) remains to be avoided if you drive in the city, under penalty of serious oil dilution and DPF problems. Although mechanical reliability is on the rise, the electronics remain capricious. A purchase to consider with a solid extended warranty and a crystal-clear maintenance history.
