Kia Telluride I (MX5) (2019 – 2022)

Reliability score : 9.2/10

The first-generation Kia Telluride (code MX5) is a large three-row family SUV (up to 8 seats) designed specifically for the North American and Middle Eastern markets. Launched in 2019, it shares its platform and mechanics with the Hyundai Palisade. It has met with resounding commercial and critical success (voted World Car of the Year 2020), establishing itself as the benchmark in its segment thanks to its prestigious design, exceptional roominess, unbeatable price/equipment ratio and, above all, remarkable reliability from its first year of production. It is not officially sold in Western Europe, which means that the units present on the Old Continent come from isolated imports.

🎯 Verdict

The Kia Telluride (2019-2022) is a true tour de force from the Korean manufacturer. It offers exceptional mechanical reliability, validated by the strictest organizations (J.D. Power, Consumer Reports, What Car?), with an extremely low failure rate for its category. Its naturally aspirated 3.8L V6 engine is a model of robustness, spared from the turbo or complex timing chain issues that affect some competitors. However, its mechanical excellence is accompanied by high fuel consumption and an XXL size. Furthermore, it has been the subject of several safety recalls in the United States (notably for fire risks related to the tow hitch harness or seat motors) that must imperatively be checked before purchase. For a North American or Middle Eastern buyer, it is a highly recommended purchase, probably the best in its segment. For a European buyer, importation is possible but homologation costs, the V6's fuel consumption, and the size of the vehicle must be carefully considered.
