Kia Stonic I (YB) (2017 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.4/10

The first-generation Kia Stonic (code YB) is a B-segment urban crossover, closely derived from the Rio city car (from which it takes its GB platform). Launched in 2017, it stands out for its dynamic design, agile road handling (though a bit firm), and its 7-year or 150,000 km manufacturer's warranty, a real asset in the used car market. In 2020, it received a facelift, bringing new driving aids, a modernized infotainment system (UVO Connect), and, most importantly, the introduction of mild-hybrid powertrains (48V MHEV) associated with a new intelligent manual transmission (iMT). Overall, the Stonic is a very reliable vehicle, particularly in its gasoline versions, which represent the vast majority of sales.

🎯 Verdict

The Kia Stonic is an extremely rational and reassuring choice in the used car market. While it doesn't excel in suspension comfort or boot volume, it largely compensates with above-average mechanical reliability and a 7-year warranty that often still covers used models. Which engine to choose? For urban use, the 1.2 and 1.4 MPI engines are indestructible and very economical to maintain. For more versatility, the 1.0 T-GDI 100 hp (manual) is the best compromise. The DCT7 automatic gearbox is pleasant on the road but requires vigilance when buying (clutch wear in the city). The diesel (CRDi) should be avoided unless you drive more than 20,000 km/year on the highway.
