Kia Stonic I (YB) (2017 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.4/10

The Kia Stonic (Generation I - YB) is an urban crossover (B-SUV segment) closely derived from the fourth-generation Kia Rio city car. Launched in late 2017, it stands out for its dynamic design, sedan-like road handling (low center of gravity for an SUV), and its 7-year manufacturer's warranty. Although demand quickly shifted towards petrol, the Stonic was offered at its launch with an excellent 1.6 CRDi diesel engine, ideal for high-mileage drivers. This engine evolved in 2018 (transition to Euro 6d-Temp standard with the addition of AdBlue) before being definitively removed from the catalog in late 2020 during the restyling (facelift), which introduced mild-hybrid (MHEV) technology on petrol engines. The Stonic is an overall very reliable model, benefiting from the maturity of Hyundai-Ki

🎯 Verdict

The Kia Stonic is an extremely rational and safe choice in the used car market. If you are targeting the diesel (1.6 CRDi), you are choosing longevity and fuel economy. This engine is one of the most reliable diesels of its generation, provided its preferred use is respected: open roads and not urban traffic jams. Opt for a 110 hp version (2017-2018) if you want to avoid potential AdBlue system quirks, or a 115/136 hp version (2018-2020) for a sustainable Crit'Air sticker and optimal depollution. For city dwellers, the MPI or T-GDI petrol engines will be much more suitable.
