The third-generation Kia Sorento (UM) marks a real move upmarket for the Korean manufacturer. Gone is the rustic off-roader positioning; this Sorento establishes itself as a large family SUV (available in 5 or 7 seats) focused on comfort, interior space, and finish quality. Based on a platform shared with the Hyundai Santa Fe, it offers excellent sound insulation and extensive equipment for its price. A facelift occurred in late 2017 / early 2018, bringing slight aesthetic changes (full LED headlights, new grille), a modernized infotainment system (Apple CarPlay / Android Auto) and, above all, the replacement of the 6-speed automatic gearbox with a new 8-speed transmission (BVA8) on the diesel engine, improving driving pleasure and fuel consumption. Expert's overall note: An excellent choi
The verdict for the Kia Sorento III depends entirely on your geographical area and the chosen engine. In Europe, equipped with the 2.2 CRDi, it's a big 'YES'. It's an extremely reliable, comfortable family SUV built for wide-open spaces. Prioritize a facelifted version (2018+) with the BVA8 gearbox for optimal driving pleasure. In North America, caution is advised. Avoid the 2.4 GDI and 2.0 T-GDI versions unless the engine has already been replaced by Kia and benefits from an extended warranty. The 3.3 V6 is a much safer choice, although it's fuel-thirsty. In all cases, meticulously check the operation of the all-wheel drive (AWD) system before purchase.
