Kia Sorento I (BL) (2002 – 2009)

Reliability score : 6.2/10

The first-generation Kia Sorento (internal code BL) marked a major turning point for the Korean manufacturer, establishing it in the global SUV market. 🎯 Verdict

The Kia Sorento I is a paradoxical vehicle: sold as a family SUV, it actually hides the architecture of a true, rugged 4x4. It's an exceptional choice for those who need to tow heavy loads (horse trailers, large boats) or drive on difficult roads at a lower cost. However, buying one today requires great caution. At all costs, avoid the 140 hp diesels (2002-2006) whose fuel tank has not been replaced, as this can lead to repeated costly breakdowns. The best choice remains the 2.5 CRDi 170 hp (Phase 2, 2006-2009), which is more refined, provided you meticulously inspect the chassis for any signs of perforating corrosion.
