Kia Rio IV (YB) (2017 – 2023)

Reliability score : 8.6/10

The fourth-generation Kia Rio (YB code) marks an evolution towards maturity for the Korean versatile city car (B-segment). Primarily designed to appeal to the European market while maintaining a global vocation, it stands out for its generous interior space, rational ergonomics, and safe road handling. The 2020 facelift brought a major technological update with the introduction of 'Smartstream' engines, including 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV) technology on the 1.0 T-GDI, as well as a new intelligent manual transmission (iMT) with an electronic clutch. Although less exuberant than some rivals (Peugeot 208, Renault Clio), the Rio YB shines with its excellent overall reliability, supported by the famous 7-year manufacturer's warranty. It is a pragmatic purchase par excellence.

🎯 Verdict

The Kia Rio IV (YB) is an absolutely sensible choice. While it may not inspire stylistic or dynamic passion, it compensates with a rare peace of mind in its category. For the city: Opt for the 1.2 MPI 84 hp. It's slow, but its reliability is bulletproof, and its maintenance is very inexpensive. For versatility: The 1.0 T-GDI 100 hp (with manual gearbox) is the best compromise. Avoid the 7DCT gearbox if 90% of your driving is in urban traffic jams, to spare yourself premature clutch wear. This is a vehicle to BUY with your eyes closed, provided the service book is stamped on time to benefit from the remainder of the 7-year warranty.
