Kia Niro II (SG2) (2022 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.8/10

The second-generation Kia Niro (codename SG2), launched mid-2022, marks a clear stylistic departure from its predecessor, with a bold design characterized by its contrasting C-pillar (Aero C-Pillar). Based on the K3 platform (shared with the Hyundai Elantra and Kona SX2), it retains its philosophy as an exclusively electrified compact SUV. It comes in three flavors: mild hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and 100% electric (Niro EV). More spacious, featuring a modernized interior inspired by the EV6 and recycled materials, it has matured. Its reliability is expected to be excellent, building on proven powertrains (Smartstream family) and correcting the early flaws of the first generation (DE).

🎯 Verdict

The Kia Niro II (SG2) is a highly recommended purchase. It builds on the excellent foundations of the first generation while correcting its presentation and interior space flaws. It is a rational, extremely reliable, and economical vehicle to use. Buying advice: The 1.6 GDI HEV is the most balanced and cost-effective choice for 80% of drivers. The Niro EV is excellent for daily use, but its 400V architecture and limited 80 kW charging make it less relevant than its bigger sibling (the EV6) for very high-mileage motorway drivers. The PHEV only makes sense if you can diligently recharge it every day.
