The first-generation Kia Niro is an outstanding choice for buyers seeking a reliable, highly efficient, and practical electrified vehicle. The 1.6 GDI HEV is the sweet spot for most buyers, offering excellent fuel economy without the need to plug in, and it has proven to be mechanically robust over time. While the DCT can be slightly unrefined at low speeds compared to Toyota's e-CVT, it provides a more engaging driving experience. We highly recommend aiming for a post-facelift model (2019+) for the vastly improved interior, better infotainment, and the integrated 12V battery system that resolves early electrical gremlins. The e-Niro is also a fantastic EV, provided the reduction gear has been inspected or replaced under warranty.
