The third-generation Kia Ceed (code name CD) marks the age of maturity for the Korean compact car. Designed in Frankfurt and produced in Slovakia, it loses its apostrophe (formerly cee'd) but gains in rigor, technology, and dynamism. Based on the K2 platform, it offers one of the best comfort/handling compromises in its category, directly rivaling European benchmarks (VW Golf, Peugeot 308). The late 2021 facelift modernized the front end (new logo, revised optics) and updated the infotainment. Strongly focused on petrol engines (T-GDI) and mild hybridization (MHEV), it benefits from the famous 7-year / 150,000 km manufacturer's warranty, making it a particularly reassuring purchase on the used car market.
The Kia Ceed III (CD) is one of the most pragmatic and reassuring choices in the compact car segment. Without being the most exciting (excluding the GT version), it excels in its consistency, well-thought-out ergonomics, and high overall reliability. T-GDI petrol engines are to be preferred, especially the recent 1.5 T-GDI with 160 hp, which offers the best performance/consumption compromise. The 1.0 T-GDI will be more than sufficient for daily use. The main point of vigilance concerns the DCT7 automatic gearbox, whose urban driving experience can be disappointing and requires careful testing. Buying used is highly recommended, especially since most models still benefit from the 7-year manufacturer's warranty, provided the service history is impeccable.
