Kia Ceed II (JD) (2012 – 2018)

Reliability score : 8.8/10

The second-generation Kia Cee'd (code JD) marks a major turning point for the Korean manufacturer in Europe. Designed in Frankfurt and assembled in Slovakia, it shares its platform with its cousin, the Hyundai i30 (GD). It stands out with an impressive leap in interior finish quality, significantly improved sound insulation, and a dynamic design by Peter Schreyer. Available as a 5-door hatchback, estate (SW), and 3-door coupé (Pro_Cee'd), it built its success on its excellent overall reliability and its famous 7-year warranty (or 150,000 km). The 2015 facelift brought minor aesthetic touches, the GT Line trim, a new DCT7 dual-clutch gearbox, and the introduction of the 1.0 T-GDI 3-cylinder engine. It is an extremely rational and reassuring used car choice.

🎯 Verdict

The Kia Cee'd II (JD) is one of the most reliable and rational compact cars of its generation. It may not spark love at first drive, but it shines with its peace of mind. The diesel engines (1.6 CRDi) are true marathon runners, while the naturally aspirated petrol engines (1.4 and 1.6 MPI) are almost indestructible. Buying advice: Opt for a facelifted version (post-2015) with a manual gearbox and the 1.6 CRDi 136 hp for high-mileage drivers, or the 1.6 GDI 135 hp for mixed use. Avoid models equipped with the DCT7 gearbox if the clutch has not been replaced or if the car judders on startup. Make sure the daytime running LED issue has already been resolved by the previous owner.
