KGM Torres I (2022 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.2/10

The KGM Torres (Generation I, codename J100) marks the revival of the South Korean manufacturer, formerly known as SsangYong. Positioned between the Korando and the Rexton, it adopts a very assertive adventurous design. ATTENTION: Contrary to the initial request, the KGM Torres has NEVER been marketed with a diesel engine, neither in Europe nor in other markets. The brand made the strategic choice to abandon diesel in this segment to focus on gasoline and especially on a highly competitive 100% electric version (Torres EVX). The model stands out for its giant interior space, its large trunk, and its aggressive price-to-equipment ratio, although the combustion version suffers from a significant ecological penalty in Europe.

🎯 Verdict

The KGM Torres is a very pragmatic family SUV that suffers from the absence of a diesel engine, traditionally prized by the brand's historical clientele (towing horse trailers, caravans). The 1.5 GDI combustion version is mechanically reliable thanks to proven components (Aisin gearbox), but its excessive fuel consumption and ecological penalty make it less relevant in Europe. KGM's real masterstroke is the Torres EVX: thanks to its partnership with BYD for the LFP battery (1 million km warranty), it offers top-tier electric reliability and an unbeatable price-to-performance ratio. This is absolutely the version to choose.
