Jaguar F-TYPE I (X152) (2013 – 2020)

Reliability score : 7.4/10

The first-generation Jaguar F-TYPE (X152) (prior to the major facelift in late 2020) is considered the spiritual successor to the legendary Type E. First launched as a convertible in 2013 and then as a coupe in 2014, it sits on an aluminum chassis. It is a sports car that leans towards Grand Touring (GT), renowned for its timeless design by Ian Callum and, above all, for the epic sound of its supercharged V6 and V8 engines. Although its weight is higher than that of its direct competitors (such as the Porsche 911 or the Cayman), it offers a rare raw and emotional character. The mechanical reliability of the V6 and V8 blocks is generally good, provided the cooling system is monitored very closely, as it is the model's true Achilles heel. 🎯 Verdict

The first-generation Jaguar F-Type is a purchase of the heart. It is bought for its sculptural lines and the symphony of its V6 and V8 engines, which are among the most beautiful sounds in modern automotive production. However, it is not a car you buy with your eyes closed. The known and documented problem of plastic cooling pipes on the AJ126 (V6) and AJ133 (V8) engines is a real sword of Damocles. If you are aiming for a V6 or a V8, demand a clear history and set aside a budget to replace these parts with aluminum preventively if it has not been done. The 2.0L 4-cylinder is to be avoided if you are looking for the authentic F-Type experience. In summary: a future classic, but one that requires an informed and meticulous owner.
