The second-generation Hyundai Santa Fe (CM) marks a major turning point for the Korean manufacturer. Gone is the rustic design of the first iteration; this generation adopts more fluid lines, a significantly increased size, and a distinctly more family-oriented and prestigious vocation (available in 5 or 7 seats). The Hyundai Santa Fe II (CM) is a family SUV with two faces. Phase 1 models (2006-2009) equipped with the 2.2 CRDi 155 hp engine should be approached with caution due to peripheral weaknesses (flywheel, turbo, EGR) and require an impeccable service history. On the other hand, Phase 2 (2010-2012) equipped with the 2.2 CRDi 197 hp (R engine) is an excellent deal. This engine transforms the vehicle, offering high-level reliability (chain timing) and first-class performance. Regardless of the model, the black spot remains the all-wheel drive (AWD) system whose splines wear prematurely. If you don't need 4x4, opt for a 2-wheel drive (2WD) version, which is cheaper to buy and maintain. Avoid the 2.4 gasoline versions imported from North America.
