Hyundai Kona II (SX2) (2023 – Présent)

Reliability score : 8.5/10

The second-generation Hyundai Kona (codename SX2) marks a radical evolution from its predecessor. Based on the K3 platform (shared with the Kia Niro SG2), it has grown considerably (+15 cm in length) to position itself at the edge of the C-SUV segment, finally offering competitive rear passenger space and trunk volume. Designed first as an electric vehicle (EV-first design) before being offered in internal combustion and hybrid versions, it stands out with its futuristic Seamless Horizon light strip. The interior takes a technological leap forward with a dual digital display and OTA (Over-The-Air) updates, while intelligently retaining physical controls for ergonomics. It is a mature, versatile, and very accomplished model.

🎯 Verdict

The Hyundai Kona II (SX2) is a vehicle that has reached full maturity. By correcting its predecessor's main flaw (lack of space), it becomes an ideal primary vehicle for a small family. The 1.6 GDI HEV (Hybrid) version is the best buy: it offers proven reliability, negligible fuel consumption, and great driving smoothness. The electric version (EV) is also excellent, although its charging speed is average; one just needs to ensure the ICCU software is up to date. The pure internal combustion versions are reliable, with a special mention for the North American 1.6 T-GDI which finally benefits from a true 8-speed automatic gearbox. A highly recommended purchase, provided one can tolerate the audible alerts from the European driving aids.
