The Hyundai Ioniq I Phase 2 (Facelift - type AE), marketed from late 2019, is an evolution of Hyundai's pioneering compact sedan. It retains its unique feature: offering three levels of electrification (Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid, and 100% Electric) on the same platform. This facelift brings a modernized front end (redesigned closed grille on the EV), a redesigned interior with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and above all, a new 38.3 kWh battery for the electric version (replacing the old 28 kWh one). Although this update increases the WLTP range to 311 km, it is paradoxically accompanied by a drop in fast charging power (DC) compared to phase 1. Overall, the Ioniq stands out as one of the most efficient and reliable vehicles of its generation.
The Hyundai Ioniq Phase 2 is an absolute choice of reason. In the 100% Electric (38.3 kWh) version, it shines with extraordinary efficiency that more than compensates for the modest size of its battery, allowing real-world consumption under 14 kWh/100 km. Its reliability is exemplary, validated by independent organizations (ADAC, TÜV). Its only real flaw is its fast direct current (DC) charging speed, which regressed compared to phase 1, making it less suitable for very long highway trips. If you charge at home and mainly drive in suburban areas, it is a highly recommended purchase. The Hybrid versions (HEV/PHEV) are excellent, highly reliable alternatives for those who need greater mileage versatility.
