Hyundai i40 I (VF) (2011 – 2014)

Reliability score : 8.1/10

The Hyundai i40 (VF generation) is a D-segment family sedan, designed specifically at Hyundai's European R&D center in Rüsselsheim to meet the requirements of the Old Continent's market. Launched first as an estate (CrossWagon - CW) and then as a sedan, it replaces the Sonata in Europe. It stands out with its "Fluidic Sculpture" design, generous interior space, and excellent price-to-equipment ratio. At its launch, it benefited from a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, a pledge of the manufacturer's confidence. Although its career was discreet compared to the European heavyweights, it represents an excellent used car bargain today, particularly with the diesel engine (1.7 CRDi), tailored for high-mileage drivers. Overall design rating: 8/10

🎯 Verdict

The Hyundai i40 (2011-2014) is a pragmatic and smart choice on the used market. Without offering the dynamism of a Peugeot 508 or the prestige of a VW Passat, it compensates with mechanical reliability above the European average of the time. The 1.7 CRDi 136 hp engine is the optimal choice to move this heavy sedan/estate, provided you drive enough to avoid DPF clogging. The GDI petrol versions are rare but constitute an excellent alternative for moderate drivers. A highly recommendable "sensible" purchase, provided you check the steering flex disc and the maintenance history.
