The second-generation Hyundai i20 (code GB in Europe, IB in India as Elite i20) marked a major turning point for the Korean manufacturer in the B-segment. Designed at the Rüsselsheim center in Germany, it features a European design, some of the best interior space in its class, and a significantly improved finish compared to the first generation. The model received a facelift in 2018, bringing aesthetic touches (new cascading grille, license plate on the tailgate), a technological update (7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto), and the introduction of the DCT-7 dual-clutch gearbox on the 1.0 T-GDI engine. This facelift also signaled the end of diesel engines in Europe. Overall, the i20 II is recognized for its very high reliability, particularly in its naturally aspirated gaso
The second-generation Hyundai i20 (GB) is an extremely rational and safe choice on the used market. While it may not ignite passion with its driving or very sober interior design, it shines with mechanical reliability far superior to the European average (especially compared to PureTech engines or some TSIs of the same era). For urban and suburban use, the 1.2 MPI 84 hp is the top choice: indestructible, economical to maintain, it handles short trips without issue. For more versatility, the 1.0 T-GDI 100 hp (preferably with a manual gearbox) offers an excellent compromise between dynamism and fuel consumption. Diesel versions should be avoided unless you cover more than 20,000 km per year on highways, in order to preserve the DPF and EGR valve.
