🎯 Verdict

The Hyundai i20 (GB) is a highly rational, pragmatic choice. If you are specifically looking for a diesel, the 1.4 CRDi is the engine to buy. It is significantly smoother and more capable than the 3-cylinder 1.1 CRDi, while offering nearly identical fuel economy. The U2 diesel architecture is fundamentally bulletproof, provided it is used correctly. Warning: Do not buy the CRDi versions if your daily commute consists of short city trips; the DPF and EGR will inevitably fail, negating any fuel savings. For city dwellers, the naturally aspirated 1.2 MPI is the safest, most reliable bet, while the 1.0 T-GDI offers the best modern driving experience.
