Hyundai i20 I (PB) (2008 – 2014)

Reliability score : 8.4/10

The first-generation Hyundai i20 (PB code) had the challenging task of succeeding the very popular Getz. Designed at Hyundai's European R&D center in Rüsselsheim (Germany), it directly targeted the B-segment benchmarks (Clio, 207, Fiesta, Polo). It stood out with generous interior space, rich standard equipment, and the famous 5-year unlimited mileage warranty that reassured many buyers at the time. A major facelift took place in 2012, adopting the Fluidic Sculpture design language (new front end, redesigned headlights) and introducing new engines such as the 1.1 CRDi 3-cylinder diesel. Although its interior plastics are hard and its sound insulation could be improved, the i20 PB is recognized as a pragmatic, economical, and overall very reliable car, marking a significant qualitative leap

🎯 Verdict

The first-generation Hyundai i20 (PB) is an extremely rational and recommendable used car choice. Without being the most exciting to drive or the best finished in its category, it compensates with formidable mechanical reliability, particularly with the 1.2 MPI gasoline engine. It is the ideal car for a new driver or as a second family vehicle. Diesel versions (CRDi) are robust but should be reserved for high-mileage drivers to avoid costly clogging problems (DPF/EGR). Opt for a facelifted model (post-2012) for a modernized look and corrected minor early issues.
