Holden Commodore VF (2013 – 2017)

Reliability score : 8.5/10

The Holden Commodore VF represents the ultimate generation of the legendary rear-wheel-drive sedan manufactured in Australia. Launched in 2013, it marks a major qualitative leap compared to the VE generation, with a vastly improved interior finish, redesigned soundproofing, and the introduction of the MyLink infotainment system. In 2015, the 'Series II' brought cosmetic tweaks and, most importantly, replaced the 6.0L V8 with the legendary 6.2L LS3 V8 from the Corvette on the sports trims (SS). Although the Holden brand permanently closed its doors in 2020, the Commodore VF remains an extremely sought-after model, supported by a vast spare parts network guaranteed by GM for at least 10 years and a huge community of enthusiasts. It is a future collector's item, particularly in its V8 variant

🎯 Verdict

The Holden Commodore VF is a masterpiece of Australian engineering and a climactic conclusion to local production. Reliability surveys (RACQ/NRMA) award it a 'Good' rating, highlighting the robustness of its main mechanical components, particularly the Hydra-Matic gearboxes and V8 engines. While the SIDI V6s are good daily drivers requiring rigorous maintenance, the real jewel is the 6.2L LS3 V8 of the Series II (2015-2017): indestructible, powerful, and charismatic. Despite the closure of Holden in 2020, purchasing one is highly recommended, as parts remain widely available. It is a passion purchase that is also justified by top-flight mechanical reliability.
