The 4th generation GMC Sierra 1500 (codename T1XX) is the technical cousin of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, but distinguishes itself with a more premium positioning, particularly in its Denali and Denali Ultimate trims. Launched in 2019, it introduced notable innovations such as the 6-position MultiPro tailgate and a carbon fiber bed (CarbonPro). In 2022, the model received a major facelift (often called 'Refresh') correcting its main flaw: an initially basic-looking cabin, replaced by a highly modern interior with large screens. In terms of reliability, the Sierra sits in the segment average according to J.D. Power, but stands out brilliantly with its 3.0L Duramax inline-6 diesel engine, considered one of the best in its class, offering V8 torque with sedan-like fuel consumption.
The 4th generation GMC Sierra 1500 is a pickup with two faces. If you opt for a V8 engine (5.3L or 6.2L), caution is advised: chronic hydraulic lifter (DFM) issues tarnish the reliability record, despite the undeniable driving pleasure of these blocks. On the other hand, if you choose the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine, the Sierra becomes one of the best pickups on the market. This engine is an engineering masterpiece, combining reliability, truck torque, and sedan fuel consumption. Absolutely favor models from 2022 onwards (Refresh) to benefit from a cabin worthy of the asking price, particularly in the Denali trim. The 2.7L Turbo engine is also a rational and robust choice for light daily use.
