GMC Canyon III (2023 – 2025)

Reliability score : 7.8/10

The third-generation GMC Canyon (Gen III) marks a major break from its predecessor. Positioned as a premium midsize pickup, it shares its platform and mechanicals with the Chevrolet Colorado, but stands out with a more statutory design, luxurious trims (Denali), and extreme off-road capabilities (AT4X). Gone are the V6 and diesel: GMC has streamlined the lineup around a single, powerful 2.7L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine (L3B) in the "High Output" version. Although the vehicle is recent, its powertrain is already proven on its big brother, the Silverado. Early reliability feedback is generally positive regarding the mechanicals, although the model has faced several recalls related to assembly errors and early software bugs.

🎯 Verdict

The third-generation GMC Canyon is an extremely competent midsize pickup. GM's choice to abandon the V6 and Diesel in favor of the 2.7L Turbo 4-cylinder (L3B) pays off in terms of performance: this engine, designed with the robustness of a diesel block, is very solid and has already proven itself on the Silverado. However, first-year production models (2023) and early 2024 models suffered from assembly issues (poorly tightened bolts, fasteners) and software bugs (cameras, phantom braking) that generated multiple recalls. Buying advice: Favor a late 2024 or 2025 model where the early factory defects have been corrected. If you buy a 2023 model, demand proof that all NHTSA recalls (especially for the wheel hubs and seatbelts) have been performed at the dealership.
