The Ford Ranger T6 (PX1, PX2 in 2015, and PX3 generations in 2018) is a global pickup truck developed by Ford Australia. Although the European market is dominated by diesel engines (TDCi / EcoBlue), the Ranger was reintroduced in North America in 2019 with a 2.3L EcoBoost petrol engine, and offers a 2.5L Duratec petrol in emerging markets. Renowned for its robustness, off-road capabilities, and towing capacity, it boasts an excellent overall reliability record. According to the TÜV Report 2024, it ranks among the top pickups with a defect rate of only 10.5% at 3 years. The ADAC confirms this solidity with a very low breakdown rate (2.8 breakdowns/1000 vehicles/year).
The Ford Ranger T6 is an excellent choice in the used pickup truck market. Data from the ADAC and the TÜV confirm that it is one of the most reliable vehicles in its class. If you are looking for a petrol engine, the 2.3L EcoBoost (North America) offers an excellent power/reliability compromise, provided you check that the fuel line recall has been carried out. The 2.5L Duratec is rustic but indestructible. On the diesel side, the older 2.2L and 3.2L TDCi blocks are true workhorses, vastly preferable to the newer 2.0L EcoBlue if longevity at high mileage is your priority. However, be careful to thoroughly check the recall history (especially the Takata airbags and the driveshaft) and the condition of the chassis (corrosion on the early model years).
