Ford Mondeo V (CD391) (2014–2022) (2014 – 2022)

Reliability score : 7.2/10

The fifth-generation Ford Mondeo (internal code CD391), also known as the Ford Fusion in North America, is a family sedan that marked a turning point for Ford by adopting a global platform. Launched in Europe in 2014 (after a slight delay compared to its American twin), it positions itself in the D-segment, offering a compromise between comfort, space, and driving dynamics, a Ford hallmark. Available as a 4-door sedan, 5-door (hatchback), and wagon (SW), it received a facelift in 2019, bringing aesthetic and technological evolutions (notably the arrival of the 8-speed automatic gearbox and new EcoBlue powertrains). Its elegant lines and spacious interior make it a serious competitor to German and French models. Overall, the Mondeo V is a reliable car, but certain engines and transmissions

🎯 Verdict

The Ford Mondeo V (CD391) is an underestimated family sedan, offering an excellent compromise between comfort, dynamism, and interior space. For a worry-free purchase, prioritize the 2.0 TDCi engines (from 150hp) or the hybrid versions (HEV/PHEV), which are the most reliable and pleasant to use. The 2.0 EcoBoost are also good choices for those who drive gasoline. Be very vigilant with the small EcoBoost (1.0 and 1.5) and TDCi (1.5 and 1.6) engines, which have experienced recurring reliability issues, and demand an impeccable service history. The Powershift automatic gearbox should be considered with the utmost caution and requires an oil change every 60,000 km. If you find a well-maintained model with a manual gearbox or the new 8-speed automatic gearbox (post-2019), it's an excellent choice. Negotiate the price if the vehicle is equipped with a risky engine or transmission, or if the history is incomplete.
