The Ford Focus IV (codename DEH), launched in 2018, is based on Ford's new C2 platform. It marks a break from the previous generation by offering significantly increased interior space, a weight reduction (up to 88 kg), and increased rigidity. True to the model's reputation, it stands out as one of the dynamic benchmarks in its segment thanks to a sharp chassis and precise steering. A facelift occurred in 2022, bringing a redesigned front end (logo on the grille), the abandonment of physical climate controls in favor of the huge 13.2-inch touchscreen integrating the SYNC 4 system, and a rationalization of the engine range. Production will definitively cease in 2025 with the planned closure of the Saarlouis factory in Germany, marking the end of the Focus lineage in Europe. Expert's overall
The Ford Focus IV is a brilliant car on the road, spacious, and well-equipped. However, its reliability record is split in two. We strongly recommend the 1.0 EcoBoost mHEV (mild hybrid) and 1.5 EcoBoost gasoline versions, which benefit from a chain drive and prove to be very reliable. On the other hand, you should avoid the classic 1.0 EcoBoost versions (2018-2020) with a wet belt, which are real ticking time bombs if maintenance hasn't been meticulous, as well as the 1.5 EcoBlue diesel, which is too fragile. Opt for a facelifted model (post-2022) to benefit from the SYNC 4 system and a streamlined engine range.
