Ford Fiesta VII (Mk8) (2017 – 2023)

Reliability score : 7.4/10

The seventh-generation Ford Fiesta (often called Mk8 in Europe) was launched in 2017 and bowed out in July 2023, marking the end of an era for Ford's iconic city car. Based on an evolution of Ford's global B platform, it distinguished itself with benchmark road handling, significantly improved finish quality compared to the Mk7, and the integration of the SYNC 3 multimedia system. A facelift occurred in late 2021, modernizing the front fascia (logo in the grille) and introducing Matrix LED headlights. Unlike the previous generation, this Fiesta was not marketed in North America, where Ford prioritized SUVs. In terms of reliability, the assessment is mixed: excellent for recent engines (mHEV) and diesels, but darkened by the wet belt design of the early 1.0 EcoBoost blocks.

⚠️ Weaknesses

🎯 Verdict

The Ford Fiesta Mk8 is a city car packed with dynamic qualities, offering a rare driving pleasure in this segment. However, buying a used model requires great vigilance regarding the chosen engine. AVOID or negotiate firmly 1.0 EcoBoost versions from before 2020 if the service history is not 100% clear and exclusive to the Ford network (risk of engine failure related to the wet belt). On the other hand, go for 1.0 EcoBoost mHEV versions (mild hybrid, post-2020) which have swapped this problematic belt for a timing chain, thus offering excellent reliability coupled with good fuel economy. The ST version remains a 'must-have' for enthusiasts.
