Ford Fiesta VII (Mk8) (2017 – 2023)

Reliability score : 7.0/10

The Ford Fiesta Mk8 represents the culmination of the famous blue oval city car, whose production definitively ceased in July 2023. More mature, better finished, and technologically up-to-date (SYNC 3 then SYNC 4 system) compared to the previous generation (Mk7), it retains what made the lineage historically successful: an exceptional chassis offering driving pleasure at the top of its category. The facelift (Mk8.5) that occurred at the end of 2021 modernized the front end and introduced digital gauges. While mHEV (mild hybrid) powertrains brought gains in efficiency and reliability (transition to a timing chain for the camshaft), early models equipped with the 1.0 EcoBoost with a submerged belt require absolute vigilance regarding maintenance history.

🎯 Verdict

The Ford Fiesta Mk8 is undoubtedly the most enjoyable city car to drive of its generation. It offers an ideal compromise between comfort (excluding sporty trims) and dynamism. However, purchasing a used version requires great caution regarding the choice of engine. 1.0 EcoBoost versions from before 2020 (with a submerged belt) should be approached with extreme suspicion and require a 100% Ford network service history. The sensible choice would be the post-2020 mHEV versions, which are much more reliable thanks to their timing chain, or the fantastic ST version for sports enthusiasts.
