The second-generation Ford Edge (CD4) is a midsize SUV designed to offer sedan-like comfort with generous interior space. Launched in 2015, it received a major facelift in 2019, introducing a new 8-speed automatic gearbox, cosmetic tweaks, and the replacement of the Sport trim with the ST version (developed by Ford Performance). Positioned above the Kuga/Escape and below the Explorer, it stood out for its excellent soundproofing and ride comfort. According to J.D. Power and the ADAC, its reliability is average for the category. The model was discontinued in North America at the end of 2024 to make way for the brand's electric transition, although a new generation (Edge L) is marketed in China. Overall reliability rating: Average to Good, conditional on rigorous maintenance of the AWD syste
The second-generation Ford Edge is an excellent highway cruiser, offering first-rate space and comfort. The EcoBoost petrol engines (2.0L and 2.7L) are generally solid and high-performing, making this SUV a relevant choice on the used market. However, the purchase must be conditional on a crystal-clear maintenance history. The major weak point of this model (and of transverse-engine AWD Fords of this era) is the power transfer unit (PTU): if its oil has not been changed every 60,000 km, walk away, as its replacement is expensive. Furthermore, ensure that the numerous electronic and safety recalls (camera, brake hoses, valves on the 2.7L) have been carried out at a dealership.
