The modern-generation Fiat Tipo (Type 356 for the sedan, 357 for the 5-door compact, 358 for the SW estate) marks Fiat's return to the C-segment with an explicit « value for money » philosophy (price/performance ratio). Without being low-cost, it offers the essentials: space, a consensual design, and proven powertrains. Sold as Fiat Egea in Turkey (where it is assembled) and Dodge Neon in some American and Middle Eastern markets, it received a facelift in late 2020, introducing new powertrains (FireFly) and an adventurous « Cross » variant. Although demand is for diesel, this sheet covers the entire range.
The Fiat Tipo is an extremely rational and intelligent used car choice. If you are looking for a reliable, spacious, and inexpensive daily driver, it perfectly fulfills its purpose. For diesel enthusiasts, the 1.6 MultiJet (120 or 130 hp) is the best buy: it transforms the Tipo into an excellent, robust, and torquey road car. The 1.3 MultiJet is reserved for those who drive on the open road but have a tighter budget, provided they avoid city driving to preserve its timing chain and DPF. Interior finishes are basic, but the mechanics (inherited from decades of Fiat experience) are generally very reassuring.
