DS DS5 I (M32) (2012 – 2015)

Reliability score : 6.8/10

Initially launched under the Citroën badge in late 2011 before becoming a standalone DS brand model during its 2015 facelift, the DS5 (generation I, code M32) is an unclassifiable premium crossover. Based on the PF2 platform (that of the Peugeot 3008 I), it stands out with its spectacular design and aeronautics-inspired cabin. Focus on the Hybrid4 version: This powertrain was a world first, combining a diesel combustion engine (driving the front wheels) with an electric motor (driving the rear wheels), thus offering a combined 200 hp and a non-permanent AWD. While the concept was innovative, the driving experience was penalized by the very slow automated manual gearbox (BMP6) and a particularly firm suspension. The overall reliability rating is average, dragged down by the THP petrol engin

🎯 Verdict

The DS5 is a 'heart over head' purchase for its unique design. Regarding the Hybrid4: It is a powertrain to approach with caution today. While the combustion engine is indestructible, the high-voltage battery is over 10 years old and the BMP6 gearbox severely lacks drivability. Only buy with a crystal-clear maintenance history and after a rigorous test drive. The rational choice: Flee the 1.6 THP petrol engines (chronic problems) and favor a model equipped with the 160 hp 2.0 HDi with an automatic gearbox (BVA6), infinitely more reliable and pleasant on a daily basis.
