DS DS5 I (M32) (2012 – 2015)

Reliability score : 7.4/10

The DS5 (initially marketed under the name Citroën DS5 before the independence of the DS brand in 2015) is an atypical premium D-segment sedan. Based on the PF2 platform (that of the Peugeot 3008 I), it stands out with its spectacular design, its aeronautics-inspired cabin, and its meticulous finish. However, this first generation (phase 1) was heavily criticized for its extremely firm damping, which compromised comfort, and its high weight. The diesel engine, particularly the 2.0 HDi, is the most suited to its size. Overall rating: a vehicle with undeniable style that captures the heart, but which requires choosing the right engine to avoid financial money pits.

🎯 Verdict

The DS5 is an image car that is bought primarily for its style. If you opt for this model, choosing the 2.0 HDi diesel engine (160 or 150/180 hp) is imperative. It offers the necessary torque to move this heavy sedan while guaranteeing excellent long-term reliability. The 1.6 HDi is too weak and requires more attention (injectors, turbo). Absolutely avoid the 1.6 THP petrol versions (155/200) from this era due to their congenital flaws (chain, oil consumption). The Hybrid4 is a technological curiosity, but the potential cost of repairs and the mediocre driving experience of its gearbox urge caution. Finally, favor a late 2013 or newer model, where the suspension settings were very slightly softened.
