The third-generation Dodge Challenger (LC/LA) is the modern incarnation of the American muscle car. Based on the Chrysler LX platform (shortened to LC, then updated to LA in 2015), it inherits suspension components from the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W210/W211) and S-Class (W220) of the DaimlerChrysler era. Although heavy and technically dated, this design gives it remarkable robustness. The model underwent a major facelift in 2015, bringing a vastly improved interior, the excellent 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox (replacing the ancient 5-speed NAG1), and the introduction of the supercharged Hellcat versions. Its production ended in late 2023 to make way for electrification (Charger Daytona). Overall reliability rating: very satisfactory, with the absence of complex avant-garde technologies worki
The Dodge Challenger is an automotive dinosaur, and that is precisely what makes its strength in terms of reliability. Based on a platform proven for over 15 years and devoid of complex downsized engines, it boasts a reliability record above the average for its category (confirmed by J.D. Power and the ADAC). Post-2015 versions are highly recommended to benefit from the excellent 8-speed ZF gearbox and an interior worthy of the name. The Pentastar V6 is a rational and very solid choice for daily use, while the Hemi V8s offer the big thrill, provided you watch out for the famous Hemi tick and adhere to very regular oil changes. A highly recommendable passion purchase, subject to verifying the recall history (especially the Takata airbags).
