The second-generation Dacia Sandero (codename B52) is the archetype of a pragmatic and rational car. Based on the B0 platform (derived from the Clio III), it offers record-breaking interior space for its price. Launched in 2012 and restyled in 2016 (Phase 2, with a new light signature and four-spoke steering wheel), it dominated private sales in Europe. The 'Stepway' adventurer version accounts for an overwhelming share of sales. While the finish and soundproofing betray its low-cost positioning, its mechanical reliability is excellent thanks to the use of widely proven Renault components. It is a smart purchase par excellence.
The Dacia Sandero II is an ultra-rational used car choice. Focusing on petrol engines, the 0.9 TCe 90 hp stands out as the best compromise for its versatility, despite a few minor early flaws (jerks, water housing) that are easily identifiable. The 1.2 16v is perfect for small urban budgets, while the LPG versions are economic bargains. Avoid models that have neglected basic maintenance: the Sandero is robust, but it is not indestructible in the face of negligence. Opt for a restyled version (after 2016) in Stepway trim for better resale value and a more appealing look.
