The Dacia Sandero II (sold under the Renault brand in some markets) is the archetype of the rational and economical versatile city car. Based on the M0 platform (derived from the Clio II/III), it offers an unbeatable price/space ratio. Restyled in late 2016 (new grille, LED daytime running lights, four-spoke steering wheel), it achieved phenomenal success, particularly in its adventurous Stepway version. Diesel Focus (1.5 dCi - K9K): Although the market has gradually shifted from diesel to petrol in this segment, the 1.5 dCi in the Sandero II is a fully mature engine. Free from the serious injection issues (Delphi pumps) of the 2000s, it proves to be a real workhorse, extremely reliable if used according to its purpose (extra-urban driving).
The Dacia Sandero II is an absolutely rational purchase. If you are looking for a reliable, spacious, and inexpensive daily driver, it is unrivaled. The 1.5 dCi is particularly relevant for high-mileage drivers: this engine is indestructible if well-maintained and allows for massive fuel savings. However, avoid diesel if you only drive in the city (risk of costly clogging) and opt for the 0.9 TCe or 1.2 16v. The Stepway version offers a real aesthetic advantage and better resale value, although the tires are slightly more expensive.
