CUPRA Born I (2021–2025) (2021 – 2025)

Reliability score : 7.7/10

The CUPRA Born (Generation I) is the first 100% electric car from the Spanish sports brand (Volkswagen Group). Based on the MEB modular platform, it is the direct technical cousin of the Volkswagen ID.3, but stands out with a much more aggressive design, specific chassis tuning (lowered suspension, progressive steering), and a cabin with superior finishes. Positioned as a dynamic compact car, it has won over drivers with its driving pleasure, although it inherited the early teething problems of the MEB platform, mainly focused on software shortcomings (infotainment) and some high-voltage battery module issues on the first series. Overall expert rating: An excellent choice for an electric compact if you opt for a model whose software has been updated (version 3.2 minimum) and whose battery

🎯 Verdict

The CUPRA Born is undoubtedly the most successful iteration of the MEB platform in the compact segment. It corrects the blandness of the ID.3 with a strong style and real driving pleasure. In terms of mechanical and electrical reliability, the engines are robust. However, the user experience of the 2021-2022 models was heavily marred by unstable software and annoying electronic bugs. Buying advice: Favor a late 2022 or 2023 model that has already received all software updates (v3.2 minimum) and whose 12V battery has been replaced. Ensure that the vehicle is not affected by the high-voltage battery modules recall, or that the intervention has been duly invoiced and tracked. The 58 kWh version (204 or 231 ch) represents the best price/performance ratio.
