The Citroën C5 Aircross over the 2024-2025 period marks a major technical transition. Although it still relies on the EMP2 platform (generation I facelifted in 2022, pending the true generation II based on STLA Medium), this period introduces a complete overhaul of its mechanical offering. The model is gradually abandoning the criticized 1.2 PureTech with a wet belt in favor of the all-new 1.2 Hybrid 136 hp (MHEV 48V) equipped with a timing chain and an e-DCS6 dual-clutch gearbox. Positioned as the family SUV focused on absolute comfort (progressive hydraulic cushion suspensions, Advanced Comfort seats, 3 independent rear seats), it finally corrects its main engine reliability flaws, although the onboard electronics and diesel emission control systems remain to be monitored. The Citroën C5 Aircross (2024-2025) is an excellent family SUV for those who prioritize comfort and modularity. However, the choice of engine is absolutely crucial. You must AVOID at all costs the 1.2 PureTech 130 hp (EB2 Gen 2) versions without maintenance history, whose reliability is compromised by the wet belt. Similarly, the 1.5 BlueHDi requires great vigilance (camshaft chain, AdBlue). On the other hand, we highly recommend to BUY the new 1.2 Hybrid 136 e-DCS6 version. This new chain-driven engine corrects the flaws of the past while offering excellent urban driving pleasure. The PHEV versions are relevant but require checking that all recalls (numerous on electrical management and fire risks) have been scrupulously applied.
