Citroën C3 Aircross I (2017 – 2021)

Reliability score : 4.2/10

The first-generation Citroën C3 Aircross (Phase 1) succeeded the C3 Picasso by adopting the highly popular codes of urban SUVs (B-SUV segment). Based on the PSA group's PF1 platform (shared with the Peugeot 2008 I and Opel Crossland X), it stands out with a cheerful design, excellent interior space, and rare modularity in its category (sliding rear bench, folding passenger seat). While its family-friendly features and suspension comfort are undeniable, its career is heavily marred by systemic reliability issues with its engines, particularly the notoriously problematic 1.2 PureTech and AdBlue issues on BlueHDi diesels. Overall Design Score: 7/10

🎯 Verdict

The Citroën C3 Aircross I (2017-2021) is an excellent family vehicle on paper, ruined by catastrophic mechanical choices from the PSA group. Buying a 1.2 PureTech petrol version is like a lottery: only consider it if the belt has been replaced very recently, the oil strainer has been cleaned, and the service history is impeccable (frequent oil changes). Diesel versions are mechanically more robust (especially the 1.6), but the budget must account for a potential AdBlue tank replacement (around €1000 to €1500). As it stands, caution is advised.
