The second-generation Chrysler Pacifica (code RU) marked a stylistic and technological breakthrough when it replaced the Town & Country. Positioned as a premium minivan, it shines with its comfort, roominess, and ingenious floor-stowing seat system (Stow 'n Go). It was also the first in its class to offer a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. However, its reliability record is very mixed: while the classic gasoline V6 engine is excellent and robust, the model suffers from a below-average overall rating (according to ADAC and J.D. Power) due to numerous bugs in the Uconnect multimedia system, a temperamental automatic gearbox on early model years, and above all, a PHEV version accumulating complex breakdowns and major safety recalls.
The Chrysler Pacifica is a brilliant minivan on paper, offering first-rate family features. However, its reliability record dictates caution. We exclusively recommend the 3.6L V6 gasoline engine, whose engine block (Pentastar) is excellent and durable. Models from 2019 onwards should be favored to avoid the early teething problems of the 9-speed automatic gearbox. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version is to be avoided, unless covered by an extended manufacturer warranty, due to a complex design prone to immobilizing breakdowns and documented fire risks. In all cases, be prepared for potential quirks from the Uconnect electronic system.
