The 4th generation Chevrolet Tahoe is a status-enhancing vehicle, extremely spacious, and formidable for towing. However, its reliability record is tarnished by costly design flaws. The AFM system lifter issue on the EcoTec3 V8s is a sword of Damocles that requires obsessive maintenance (very frequent oil changes) or a preventive modification (AFM delete). Furthermore, the Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) suspension and onboard electronics age poorly. Buying used is viable only if the vehicle has an impeccable maintenance history, if the MRC shock absorbers have already been replaced, and if the price allows for absorbing potential engine repairs.
